I’d like to denounce the old adage “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Completely false. The way to anyone’s heart is through their stomach. Who doesn’t appreciate the well executed meal? I don't have a clue what songs were played at my senior prom, but I can tell about the pear sorbet at the dinner.
Turns out the way to heart disease is through your stomach too. If your diet is heavy in saturated fats and lacks soluble fiber you may expect to be at risk for high cholesterol. Lucky for us The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has an extensive online kit to educate on lowering cholesterol.
The kit offers TLC (Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes) designed to help you make lifestyle adjustments that will lower blood cholesterol and reduce your risk for heart disease. TLC’s include following the diet, increasing physical activity, and managing weight. Naturally my favorite part of the kit is the cholesterol conscious recipes. (Hello sweet potato custard!)
