A new study put out by the New York State Psychiatric Institute shows a huge upswing in the number of children who suffer from bipolar disorder. The symptoms of bipolar disorder/manic depression are mood swings, disruptive behavior and extreme irritability. The symptoms of being a child are mood swings, disruptive behavior and extreme irritability.
How can a psychiatrist know if a child suffers from mental illness?
Children, although cute as a button and probably towheaded, are not known for their mental discipline and keen decision-making skills. The mental health of a child cannot be well compared to the mental health of an adult. Adults have learned through the "living process" how to interact with other "humans" and exist within "society" at large. Children are mentally unformed and much shorter when compared with adults.
Some psychiatrists believe that children can't even get bipolar disorder. Others think that almost half the the children who are supposedly bipolar have been misdiagnosed. Still, many parents laud the anti-psychotic drugs that let their children live a normal life. Conspiracy theorists believe that this how the drug companies are going to slowly take over.
What ever the case, it wouldn't hurt to ask a professional medical doctor. To do so, click here. (Caution: The drug companies may have gotten to your doctor.)
