The Wall Street Journal's resident medical blogger Dr. Benjamin Brewer has voiced his opinion regarding cold medication for children:
“It’s just a virus, and, unfortunately, there is no safe and effective cold medication on the market that I can recommend to you.” (WSJ)
Beyond this official statement, Dr. Brewer revealed that when his 3-year-old boy was battling a cold, he and his wife, after a sleepless night, gave him a dose of cold medicine with positive results. In his latest blog entry he writes, “I have found that the advice to hold off on a kid’s cold medicine is much easier to give than it is to heed.”
